BATTLES: Often someone will ask me about handling a situation that could have potentially explosive consequences. My response is generally the same, “A dog can whip a Skunk but it’s just not worth the stink.” In other words, handle your battles wisely. Prepare for the event and aftershocks. Think through the many different possible scenarios if you do this or that. In battle, you are not looking for a good result but the best result. When it involves people, when possible, try redemption and reconciliation first. By the way the Bible points out in Romans 12:18, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Thus, don’t live under the guilt that you can repair every relationship. There are limits and the primary limit is the fact that you can’t force others to do the right thing. You are only responsible for yourself making the right or Christian response. When the battle is over, the best thing is to know you did what you could to help the other person; however, not at the expense of dishonoring Almighty God. In other words, the glorification of God, not our personal comfort, is the most important thing for the leader. |
