Why was Joshua such a tremendous success? |
27. He persevered unto the end Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
26. He was a man who possessed and exercised faith Heb 11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
25. He dealt with the issue of sin when the need arose Joshua 7:19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide [it] not from me. Joshua 7:25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
24. He humbly worshiped and submitted unto the lord Jos 5:14 And he said, Nay; but [as] captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
23. He believed in and practice a separated lifestyle Jos 5:3-4 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins. And this [is] the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, [that were] males, [even] all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt. Jos 5:7 And their children, [whom] he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.
22. He mentored others. Jos 4:4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man: A Great Leadership Lesson: THOSE WHO ARE THE CLOSEST TO ME DETERMINE THE LEVEL OF MY SUCCESS
21. He rendered all the glory unto God Jos 3:9-10 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God. And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God [is] among you, and [that] he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
20. He was honored by the Lord Jos 3:7 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, [so] I will be with thee.
19. He depended on the presence of the Lord Jos 3:6 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
18. He encouraged and believed in purity (he was a man of integrity) Jos 3:5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you. When you need integrity, nothing can take its place!
17. He was an early riser Jos 3:1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. Nobody who ever gave his best and regretted it. George Halas
16. He learned from the mistakes of the past. Joshua 2:1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. Notice last time Moses sent twelve spies and only two were right - Joshua learned from the mistake of the past and only sent two. Wisdom.
15. The people strongly supported him Jos 1:16-18 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. Whosoever [he be] that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
14. He accepted responsibility and followed through with God’s plan in God’s way. Jos 1:10a "Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, ..." Nothing important was ever achieved without someone taking a chance. H. Jackson Brown
13. He meditated on the Word of God day and night Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
12. He was strong and courageous Jos 1:6-7 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it [to] the right hand or [to] the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. God chooses what we go through; we choose how we go through it. Courage is not defined by those who fought and did not fall, but by those who fought, fell, and rose again.

Leadership Principle (11 of 27) extracted from Joshua:
11. He listened to the voice of God.
Joshua 1:1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,
In the near future, I will post a series on Hearing God's Voice.
Leadership Principle (10 of 27) extracted from Joshua: 10. He was endowed with the spirit of wisdom De 34:9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Have you asked Him?
9. He received a specific call from God De 31:7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
De 31:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.
The greatest gift in the world is what God calls you to do!
8. He saw (was aware of) the hand of God at work
De 3:21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.
Have you considered all the things (miracles) the Lord has done for you in the past? Where is the Lord at work around you right now?
7. He was encouraged by the man of God - Moses De 1:38 [But] Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
De 3:28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

Leadership Principle (6 of 27) extracted from Joshua:
Why was Joshua such a tremendous successful Leader?
6. He wholly followed the Lord Nu 32:12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.
Are you Finding, Following and Fulfilling God's Will? Are you completely following Him? These two men were rare wouldn't you say? 2 out of million or so?
5. He was led by and filled with the Holy Spirit
Nu 27:18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom [is] the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
Circumstances do not make you what you are they reveal what you are! Are you Controlled by the Holy Spirit? |
4. He was always on the cutting edge of pursuing God’s will Nu 14:6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, [which were] of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
Jos 3:4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed [this] way heretofore.
Are you currently pursuing God's best? What happen? Has the fear of Giants stopped you? God is bigger than all your giants. David was promoted after defeating his.
3. He was mentored By Moses Ex 24:13 And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.
Who is your mentor? Who are you mentoring? Jesus chose 12 men to pour His life into. No one has meant more spiritually in my life than my mentor the late Dr. Hal Fletcher, Jr. Value your mentor and do all you can to show your appreciation. What have you done for your mentor lately? Do something today. Hurry.
2. He spent much time in the presence of God
Ex 24:13 And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.
Ex 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
Walk so close to God that you leave no room for the devil.
Reputation is made in a moment: character is built in a lifetime
1. He respected and was submissive to authority
Ex 17:9-10 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
