WHO ARE YOU? Identification of your ministry (branding) is an important key to effective outreach as you establish a ministry of integrity. How can you start this process? 1. Define your purpose in a simply statement (for example, our ministry statement is, “Fueling the Fire of Spiritual Desire”). This needs to be a prayerful and thoughtful determination. This statement is what you and or your ministry (church) are all about. It’s why you exist. You need to write down everything you are about then take all that information and refine it to one simple statement. 2. Once you have established your ministry purpose the next step in identifying your existence is a logo. I would encourage you to hire someone for this step. Most of the time you will receive several options and then you can select the one you like best. After you make your selection, you may then refine it with things like color, website address, purpose statement etc. 3. Our ministry after four years made a major change and it required all the changes above. People knew us by our previous logo and statement and making a change in mid stream is not the best thing to do – but in our case it was a God-thing. As time passes, you will realize how important the above things are; thus, it is so important to get this done up front and as soon as possible 4. Give much thought to your website address and website. Make it as simple - the URL address and the website itself. I have said this in previous teachings but keep your website updated at least weekly and DON’T put a calendar on it unless you plan to put all public events on it and you plan to keep it updated. I see this all the time – it reflects poor stewardship! It leaves a bad image. 5. After you have achieved all of the above the next step will be carefully planning all of your publicity to match the above branding. Things like your letterhead, cards, newsletter etc. The minute someone sees your logo they know it’s a ministry they can trust rather than another piece of junk mail. |
